David Smallman from Pathfinder Consulting

We had the great pleasure of doing the video for David Smallman at The Business Club Cambridge last night. David is an international businessman with 45 years of experience, and he took questions from local businesses, sharing his wisdom with us.

Star 107 radio was also there, and I won an interview on Business Hub for fast thinking and identifying Kazakhstan as one of the countries David has done business in! Exciting!!

We are excited to announce a brand new partnership with EMG Motor Group, Cambridgeshire's premier car dealership! The sales staff and service team have taken excellent care of our vehicles as we drive about photographing in the county, the Northwest, and London, and we are pleased to be able to assist our EMG friends by photographing their like new vehicles for the used car department. EMG has over a hundred cars on their forecourt in Cambridge on Milton Road, near the science park, and we'll be photographing 20 to 30 cars a week for them. We would love some feedback on our vehicle images, take a look at http://www.emgmotorgroup.com and tell us what you think.

Your Horse Live!

Today we had the great pleasure of watching some excellent demonstrations at Your Horse Live. We photographed a teaching event held by Lucy Killingbeck at the Dodson and Horrell Arena, which was a great opportunity to see the difference between different horse breeds and how they move, from what angles they are best viewed and photographed, and how to motivate horses to get the best from them from a judge's viewpoint. Fortunately the same things that judges are looking for are also important features of a horse photo. In East Anglia there are many opportunities to photograph equestrian sports, as we are blessed to have the College of West Anglia which holds events with famous eventers and horse sports such as Horse Ball. Piggy French and Mary King have been to CWA events, so if you are interested in horse photography take a look at their website and see what events are coming up: http://www.cwa.ac.uk/facilities-equine.html

Cambridge Fireworks and Fire Performance

We really enjoyed the Bonfire Night fireworks on Midsummer Common- even better than last year, incredibly well put together and a real show stopper! Wildfire Productions http://www.wildfireproductions.com put on an amazing fire show keeping us all entertained until the show started, and I wish I could think of a reason to have a massive party with fire. :)

Embroidery machine of doom

I went round to see my friends Andrew and Lloyd at YourLogoHere.co.uk to see their new premises and brand new embroidery machine- it will do 8 garments simultaneously! I do a fair bit of sewing but this machine is a monster:

(This is only half of it!)

Embroidery thread has an incredibly lustrous sheen, which is why embroidery catches the eye:

Swavesey Camera Club is sorting out a website with Your Logo Here that will allow members to order branded products, so I chose 10 items for the site.

Many thanks Lloyd and Andrew, also for the free boxes and the tip about scaffolding planks!

We met Evelyn Glennie!

Tonight we had the very great pleasure of photographing a charity event hosted by The Inspired Group and Business Club Cambridge. The fabulous Evelyn Glennie brought her marimba, water phone, halo, and all sorts of other percussion instruments, and she spoke to us about her experience with the connection between music and business. As a successful businesswoman herself, Evelyn had plenty of helpful tips. And of course, her marimba playing is stunningly good. I honestly had no idea she was in fact deaf.

Many thanks to Susan Goodrich @sjgoodrich with Business Club Cambridge and Ann Hawkins @annhawkins with The Inspired Group for putting on such a successful event.

Is it time to go back to Cambridge already?

After a long and successful trip, the time has finally come to return to Cambridge and start following up all the contacts we've made in Michigan. We'll be on the ground at Heathrow after a short 8 hour flight (!!) and getting readjusted to the time.

A highlight of the trip was our visit to the Bear Ranch in Michigan's Upper Peninsula- look through the previous posts for more details.

Arrived in Michigan

I arrived in my hometown of Clinton, Michigan yesterday. One of the first things I noticed was the difference in the quality of light. Quality is what photographers mean when they talk about how much light is present and of what sort. Maybe you've always thought light was mostly the same everywhere, or never noticed a difference. But as photographers light is our business, and we constantly evaluate the light around us, so in a way I suppose you could call us "light spotters" or "light anoraks." :)

Many variables affect the light striking what we see and photograph: light colour, directness, diffuseness, angle, surrounding objects, the weather...tomorrow I'll talk about some of those and the quality of the light here.

A Royal Visit....

Today I photographed a visit from Prince Charles at Anglesey Abbey. I'm also a volunteer for the National Trust, which helped because I knew my way around and could direct Charlie's Angels. :) Did you know they are called that? They are! Charles was giving a talk at an event to promote UK business, and as the property photographer I was also able to hear the presentations, which were really quite good. It was a first for me photographing royalty, but I'm sure it won't be the last as everyone comes to Cambridge sometime or other.
